If you have read some of our past blogs, you’ll probably know we are huge sports fans, and sponsor young sporting prodigies from across the UK as they rise to greatness. We like to invest money into sports, but this morning, we read that Sky Sports have invested US$1,000,000 into the Drone Racing League (DRL), to show the much talked about US competition, here in the UK! The DRL will be broadcasted on Sky Sports Mix, their new TV program, in 10 one hour episodes which will start in October 2016.
Five races will be shown on each episode, all from the 2016 DRL season. The league works in a ‘winner takes all’ fashion, and one drone racing pilot will take all of the gold home with them. If that’s not enough for you, Sky Sport’s investment has completed another deal with the DRL to bring some of the live drone racing events to the UK in one of our many famous sporting venues. Will it be Wembley Stadium? The O2 arena? Or will it be Manchester’s famous Old Trafford? Who knows…
We know what you’re thinking… Can someone really make a career out of racing a drone? Well, the answer is yes you can. Here are the 13 pilots from this year’s DRL. if you click on the DRL link, you will be linked through to their personal pages, for a little more information on them.
The founder of the DRL, Nicholas Horbaczewski said, “This is an incredibly exciting day for the DRL”. A lot of work has gone into this deal from both parties, so we hope it will be a huge success!
As the world around us becomes more and more digitalised everyday, we do start to wonder if basic things such as sporting events will become digitalised as time goes on. For example, will referees be robots? With goal line technology being introduced, it certainly wouldn’t surprise us! The question is, will this ruin the classic sporting experience, as we feel sport is something made by us that brings people together, if we let computers start to control our games, will that split us apart in the sporting world? Only time will tell…
So you’re probably wondering why we’re interested in the DRL… The DRL should be making an appearance in the UK any time soon, so we want to make sure we are your first choice for transport to the event, or indeed transport to any other sporting event in the UK. Our luxurious coaches are always a joy to be in when travelling, so whatever the group size, we’d be happy to help to the best of our ability. If you have any questions on what our coaches have to offer, or would like to enquire about a journey, please call us on 0800 037 8081.
